one of the blades to the switch 
in 54-1727 "lost it" earlier this
afternoon -- the upshot is that many
machines "disappeared". 

i've re-seated the blade (forcing
it to replace its configuration with
a fresh copy) and things looked alright
when i left a few moments ago.

if this was not a case of bit-rot, however,
it will recur. at that point, we'll
know that it's either the blade or the
chassis.

vote for bit-rot...
