Dear 12003,

I'll be returning Problem Set 2 to you all tomorrow (Friday).

This was more challenging for you than PSet 1. We noted the following:

Q.2 some of you messed up the integration

Q.3, many of you didn't recognize that the atmosphere being neutrally stable to
convection means theta=constant. Instead you tried to solve the problem less
accurately using a 10 K/km lapse rate.

Q.4 problems taking derivatives. There were quite a few mistakes in taking
d(theta)/d(p), which ought not to be too challenging!

Q5. some of you had trouble with the last part (parcel moving
adiabatically from 10 km to 5 km). You got this conceptually but then applied
the equations incortrectly.

Could I encourage you to

(i) do the maths more carefully and methodically!

(ii) attend the recitations - Mike and Angela are there to help you!

See you in the morning,

John
